The Outpost
The movie, The Outpost, weighs heavy on my mind, especially with Veterans Day this week.
The story of men who paid the ultimate price for some politician's dumb idea.
The fact that not everyone comes home with a Hollywood story of glory. Or maybe they all do. This is the movie for the enlisted person, not the famous Navy SEAL. The one whose names we don't recall.
UGH. It stays with me. This Veterans Day felt different. I see things differently now. It's not just a movie, entertainment for an hour. This is my real life. The real life of the customer at Starbucks who yells at her kids because this deployment life feels endless. The partner of the soldier who jumps at random noises now.
It took me 4 days to get through this movie, taking breaks with comedy sitcoms (Superstore at the moment) to raise my mood and serotonin.
For me, my husband (and those who serve beside him) inspire me. Especially given the recent election, my husband would have volunteered to serve his country, no matter who the Commander-in-chief was. That dedication and loyalty is unmatched and something I am not willing to do. His daily service as well as inspiring stories of every service member keeps me hopeful and restores my faith in humanity.
